The lake wasn't ferociously cold.....in
fact, after I got acclimated it was refreshing. So I swam all
the way out to the middle and started yelling and splashing to
get the group's attention. I had asked someone to snap a picture.
I heard a few words from our Greenlandic friend Peter "......inaudible.......crazy
Americans! .........inaudible.....". (Greenlanders don't
swim, from what we were told. If someone fell in the sea, for
example, they're dead within minutes - that's how cold the fjord
is.) The American's reaction were apparently unanimous. I was
told later that the first two people that spotted me in the middle
of the lake both said "O-H, M-Y G-O-D! ! |
