Our base camp lay far below us in the
valley. We were treated to beautiful Greenlandic summer scenery:
in the background was Mt. Illimaussaq on the left and Naqallak
on the right. We enjoyed perfect temperatures for hiking up to
the 1,780 foot high tugtupite area on Kvanefjeld. It was a naturally-air
conditioned 65 degrees F. and remained nice all that day and
night. We didn't know how lucky we were! Was the old Norse weather
god Thor actually helping us, as I had tried to arrange? If so,
he quickly turned against us. The weather turned bad the next
day and stayed that way the entire trip. |
