Discovered on March 21, 2009, the Green Witch fluorescent minerals were not found in the small mine prospect pit at center left, above. They were actually just a random occurrence of rocks laying on the flat grassy ground center right. A lone Joshua tree stands guard on top of the hill. In the Shadow Hills there are other fluorescent locations: the Red Raven and the White Elephant mines, plus the "North Shadow Hills" and "Pyro Pit" locations. Primitive cell phone pics are all that I have from the glory days of the Green Witch. After the initial discovery of the Green Witch in 2009 I returned on a half dozen solo trips before turning my fluorescent hunting elsewhere. The Shadow Hills were my training ground for desert driving and getting familiar with the conditions. Wind and dust were often a problem but I was thrilled at the success of my first fluorescent discovery in the desert. Many more desert adventures would follow in the following years but my Southern California fluorescent exploration really began for me at the Green Witch.
