Multi-Scout Orbiter
over the northern polar icecap
The Multi-Scout concept started with
an orbiter carrying eight landers. Once safely in orbit, the
landers would be deployed two at a time. The entire process could
take a year or more to allow time for careful consideration of
each potential landing site. The landers were small and would
have carried only a camera and a few instruments to scout out
the terrain. This concept would have helped with our lack of
detailed knowledge about surface hazards.
