That's George Polman, geologist and
fluorescent mineral collector standing in front of the small
hill that's over the entrance to the Hull Mine.
George has the best collection of
fluorescent minerals in Arizona. Some of his specimens were collected
by him in remote areas like Castle Dome. So he knew from first-hand
experience the various dangerous creatures that roam the Arizona
night. Based on experience, he brought a tent.
I just slept on the ground in the
open to enjoy the desert night. I was so tired that rattlesnakes
or scorpions might have crawled right over my sleeping bag -
but nothing happened. It felt a bit supernatural out there that
night. And it was definitely the kind of place where you need
to shake out your boots in the morning. I was hoping to see a
Gila monster out there but no such luck.
